Rosita's Fine Mexican Food

Our Favorite Mexican Food Restaurant! Rosita started her restaurant in 1963 , with only 4 tables in a location not far from where it is now (Hardy & University in Tempe). Rosita's is still family owned and operated, I believe by her grandchildren (a few of which are Iraq War veterans). The food is consistantly good and so is the service (I've been going since 2000). Our personal favorites are the shredded beef tacos, the chicken tacos and the homemade salsa which has just the right amount of spicy. Their enchiladas are awesome too!

Over the last few years they've been renovating the inside. The booths have re-upholstered and the old cane and wicker chairs are long gone (but they weren't so comfy to begin with). There are 3 dining rooms and the bar. So, next time you are in town for an ASU game or other nearby event, this is the place to go for really good, reasonably priced Mexican food.
Here's the web page for the whole history and the menu. Enjoy!

Hobo Joe Statue

Giant Hobo Joe fiberglass statue. This one, hidden just off MC85 (Buckeye Rd) and Apache (which is barely a street), is apparently the last one left as far as anyone knows. If you go looking for him, get directions to the Maricopa County Buckeye Complex/ Buckeye MVD. It's just a few yards away.

I tried to get the other side of him, and if you look by the top of the plaque, you can the the tattered shoes. This giant version of Hobo Joe was the the only one not to get installed, as the businesses went under beforehand. This one stayed with it's maker Marvin Randsell and was left to his friends, the Gilliums when he passed. They erected it here and installed the plaque. The business behind him appears completely abandoned, and the only other things close to him are a canal and a dirt road. I searched the internet for Hobo Joe's to get more info and found very little, although it seems there's still a coffee shop with the name- somewhere in Cottonwood, AZ but I doubt it is the same.

Del Monte Market

Del Monte Market has been a staple corner store, complete with hitching post, since 1908.
Located at 2659 W Dobbins Rd.Phoenix, AZ 85041, it's was probably the only store for miles until recently (last 10 years or so) when the building and development in the area boomed. They carry a little of everything, and have a blue mailbox in front as well as a volleyball court to the back of the market. Today they were also selling Indian Fry-Bread at a small stand to the back. Neat place.

In the background you can see the Estrella Mountains, which are in mid-SW Maricopa County.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Maricopa County Photo Journal. I will do my best to capture all the cool and interesting things in Maricopa County, Arizona.
This first photo was taken near Carefree Highway 74 and the I-17 Freeway. Apparently the company, http://www.hotairexpeditions.com/ does daily rides. I never knew until we were coming back from Yavapai County one Saturday evening and saw the three balloons over the freeway.
