Mesquite Tree Down!!

Huge wind storm blew through Maricopa County overnight 12/7-12/8/2009. This is what happened to my poor Mesquite and back fence. Thankfully, the neighbors house didn't get damaged by the tree.

Looking for a handout

We have a lot of birds by work. This common sparrow was looking for a handout from his perch in the Ficus, right outside the Maricopa County Admin Building

Luhrs Tower

This is the backside of the Luhrs Tower, on Jefferson and 1st ave in downtown Phoenix.
It's also one of the very, very few buildings in the county that have real fire escapes.

Yup. Thats right. Farmed Shrimp. I guess every year Gila Bend has a Shrimp-fest. Certainly NOT what I would have expected to find in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. If I remember I'll go back when it's Shrimpfest time!

Neat gift shop in Gila Bend. He has all sorts of trinkets, yard-art, metal sculpture, and hot Sauce!

Stout's Hotel, Gila Bend

This ancient building is Stout's motel.

The sign indicates they have steam heat....

I don't think it's used often.

The food & Service were very good. There are all
sorts of great wall murals and "Space" Art throughout
the diner. If you happen to be traveling nearby, go have lunch!

The birds were good enough to plant this for me. It was about 5.5' tall before it went to seed and dried up in the killer heat.

The old Territorial jail is now part of an exhibit at the Mesa Southwest Museum, which is great place to visit.

Wild Cow!

My husband took this picture a few years back, up in the
Carefree Highway & Lake Pleasant area. The cow was checking
up on them......

Hummingbirds

These unfortunate Hummingbirds were hurt by domestic cats. They are too disabled, even after rehab to be returned to the wild. This is a reason for us cat & bird lovers to keep the cats in!

This statue is located in a small park area, between 1st and 3rd Avenues & Jefferson and Washington Streets- near the old City Hall building.

J.A. Jance book signing

I went to the 01-August-2009 book signing for J.A. Jance's newest release, "Fire and Ice", which is a Beaumont-Brady crossover. She spoke for a bit and signed books. I bought the new one and had my copy of "Hand of Evil" with me as well.
